Windows 10: Why Has Microsoft Dropped Windows Photo Viewer And Replaced It With Something Worse?

I have used Photo Viewer for many years and never once found fault with it, so I am mighty peeved that Microsoft killed it off surreptitiously when it automatically updated my Windows 10 system. I would be grateful if someone could tell me how I can get it back without tinkering in the registry. I can't get on with 'Photos' as it is hopelessly slow & dismal


I need to know how to unhide this photo viewer on a fresh install of windows. work does not allow you to install software from the Microsoft store due to security concerns surrounding MS store policy. So if MS Photo viewer is still just hidden how do I Unhide the software.

Just do not like this "new" photo viewer, it is just cumbersome to operate, lot of extra steps etc. I like the older Win photo viewer, however since JPG files are saved as "unhandled Extension handler finder", *Confused I need something else. Appreciate any suggestions that is not overly optioned, just a simple viewer. Tx

I just use the Photos app for a quick view, otherwise I use Adobe Lightroom to view and edit photos.

If you mean the Photos app, then no, I don't like it much either. But the old Windows Photo Viewer that's been around since Windows 7 is still available in Windows 10. Here they are side by side.
