Why has the December 2024 upgrade mangled menu and submenu displays in LibreOffice?

If I run LibreOffice suite in safe mode, the issue is controlled, but I then can't coordinate with Zotero reference manager. Otherwise, word processor and spreadsheet pages look like this, with blacked out menu and submenu labels and actions, duplicated content and worse. Might it have created conflicts for the graphics accelerator card? I also noticed that the upgrade slipped in a requirement for an on-line connection, which I restored to local control. I can send screen shots if helpful.

Windows 10 version 1809 update - Slow Context New Submenu & Menu Items Missing

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else has this problem.

After the 1809 update I've found that all the PCs I have applied it to so far have the same symptom of very slow access to the New submenu in Right Click Context menus. It seems when you first open the right click menu and scroll to the New submenu there
will be a long delay before the submenu opens which freezes the Context menu. Once the New submenu opens you can roll the mouse cursor on and off the submenu and it will close and re-open quickly, but as soon as you allow the Context menu to close and try
the re-open it the problem returns. It appears to be some problem with background enumeration of the menu.

I also notice on a couple of machines the New submenu now contains far fewer items after the 1809 update. Some of the systems have a lot of software installed so usually have a long list in the New submenu, others are basically vanilla content machines
for browsing and just have the defaults with Office 365.

This happens over the desktop or in any open Explorer window.

The five machines I have upgraded are from a variety of manufacturers(Dell, Acer and Asus) using different processors(new and old), graphic cards(AMD, Nvidia and Intel), etc., etc., so it seems it is not associated with any specific hardware. I have had
no other obvious problems with the 1809 update.

Desktop items open Libreoffice; windows bugged and flickering

My mother's PC had the most bizarre bug I've ever seen this morning.

PC specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit
Version: 1903 when problem occurred (1909 now)

    What happened:
    • all desktop items, including folders, opened in Libreoffice Writer; once open it displayed a blank document then began flickering as if it had bugged while scrolling
    • opened Task Manager from the task bar, selecting the second tab opened the final tab, which began flickering like Libreoffice
    • problems stopped after a restart, then occurred again after another restart; then stopped after the PC ran for a short time
    • no error popups or BSODs
    • she said Candycrush reported an error earlier but it didn't occur when I looked at it; she said it mentioned "something about the desktop"

    Steps I've taken:
    • did a quick virus scan then reboot scan with Windows Defender; no problems found
    • sfc /scannow; no problems found
    • installed update KB4537572 and upgraded system to 1909; updates appear to have been successful, no other updates available

At the moment the problem has disappeared, but since it reoccurred previously I'm not sure it hasn't been fixed.

I'm out of ideas. What else can I check and what other tests can I run? Based on the given information could anyone suggest what the problem might be?

Why has the December 2024 upgrade mangled menu and submenu displays in LibreOffice?

    LibreOffice keeps going "unresponsive"

Personally I think that would be a huge mistake. Most developers fled OpenOffice when it moved to Oracle and the pace of development has slowed so much that Oracle just donated it to the Apache Foundation. (You can read more about the history in this Should I switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice or Microsoft Office? article.)

Here's all 6 OpenOffice releases from April 2014 to date:
    OpenOffice 4.1 released April 2014
    OpenOffice 4.1.1 released August 2014
    OpenOffice 4.1.2 released October 2015
    OpenOffice 4.1.3 released October 2016
    OpenOffice 4.1.4 released October 2017
    OpenOffice 4.1.5 released December 2017

Now compare it with the 161 releases of LibreOffice during the same period (not counting Alpha or Beta versions). The list is too long to list here but you can see it for yourself.

I agree with @Caledon Ken... stick with the Still versions of LibreOffice (a.k.a stable) and try v6.0.6.

    Hope this helps...
