Windows 10: Why have you broken the Windows Photos app? Please fix it.

I started having issues with the windows photos app after the last update of Windows. When loading a photo from Explorer it hangs more often than opens. I thought it might have been an issue with my system, but since then i have built a completely new pc and installed a fresh version of windows and, surprise surprise, the Photos app is doing the same thing.


I have seen numerous posts where you suggest a repair method for the app. I have also followed these and it works for about an hour then starts to crrash again.


Instead of telling your customers to repair your faulty product how about you fix it or, untill you fix it, roll back to the previous version that actually worked.


I hope the programmer that made this version is hanging his head in shame!!


For now i am going to uninstall it and find a third party replacement.

Windows 10 Photo app

Hi Luka,

There is a possibility that there is an app or a driver conflicting with the photos app and causes this issue to arise. We suggest that you follow these troubleshooting steps to fix this.

• Uninstall the Photos app.
• Perform Clean Boot - This troubleshooting step makes sure that there are no third party apps is causing software conflicts
  as it only loads minimum drivers and startup programs. Note: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the KB article to boot the computer in normal
  startup after fixing the issue.
• Reinstall the Photos app.

The Photos app brings together pictures from all your devices using OneDrive, so that you can browse them by date, album or folder. It also automatically enhances photos, and creates albums for you, to showcase your best shots.

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps:

Method 1:

I suggest you to change the Default apps in the setting app and verify the result. You may follow the steps in the below:

• Go to settings and system.
  
• Click on Default Apps and select the appropriately.
  

Method 2:

I suggest you to reinstall Photo app using the PowerShell command
and reinstall using the Windows store. Follow the below steps.

• Open the　Start　menu, type　Windows PowerShell　in the search bar.
  
• Right click on the　Windows　PowerShell　and select　Run as　administrator.
  
• Enter the below command to uninstall the Photo app.
  

• 　　get-appxpackage　　*Microsoft.Windows.Photos* | remove-appxpackage

We suggest that you reset Windows Photo app. Follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key + R.
• Type %appdata%\..\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Photo_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
• Delete all the contents of the folder.
