Windows 10: Why is a particular word docx sent as an email attachment opening with the track-changes...

I have Word 2010 for Mac. When I send a particular document as an email attachment, it opens with the tracked changes panel showing. I've turned off track changes, set the document to "read only" but that hasn't corrected the problem. I created a new document, using "Save As" with tracked changes off and "read only." That didn't work either.

Not sure how you are doing this. You can save file and then send file as an attachment. Ensure the attachment has the doc or docx extension.

Maybe outline how you are actually sharing.

The other way within Word is click file, Share, email, Send as an email attachment. This is only available if you have an email client (program or app) that Windows recognizes. I assume you have outlook.


Either way if you go into your sent folder and open email is the attachment listed as doc, docx or pdf. If listed as one of the docs the change is happening at the other end.

 

Opening Word attachments to emails with Microsoft 10

Since I upgraded to Windows 10 I cannot open Word documents attached to emails. I tried the suggestion of going to Control Panel, Office and doing an online repair, but the attachments still do not open. I am able to look at attachments to emails on my
Iphone, so I know there is no problems with the Word files being sent. This just started when I changed to Windows 10.

Any suggestions?

1. When I try to open Word documents sent as an email attachment, I get the message "Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions ..."

2. The same thing happens whether I open my email in Internet Explorer, Edge or Chrome.

3. My email client is comcast.net.

4. Not sure what you mean by "different account", but I just forwarded an email to a gmail address that I sometimes use and opened that email in Chrome. Trying to download and open the Word attachment I again get the same error message.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
