Windows 10: Why is changing the brightness so slow when I start up my PC?

My previous computer ran Windows 10 and for some reason, every time I started it up, specifically F2 and F3 which change the brightness, would take upwards of about 5 minutes to register even though any other settings that use the F buttons like for volume, airplane mode, my keyboard backlight, etc. all work pretty much instantly.

But the weird thing is that I recently got a new PC also running Windows 10 and it does the exact same thing. They're both HP's so that may have something to do with it, but I think it might be related to the software. I haven't experienced serious performance issues with either one. Anyone else experience the same thing or know why it does that?

Why has Windows 10 slowed my computer so much?

If you upgraded to Win10 with MBAM installed, it's very possible that the OS upgrade messed up something with MBAM.
(It was/is M$ "best practices" to temporarily uninstall your AV, AM and other security programs before upgrading to Win10, to minimize the chance of such corruption.)

Either way, for starters, I suggest a proper, clean MBAM reinstall.
I suggest carefully following ALL of the steps here: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x.
Pointers:

• Please be sure you have your license info handy before you start
• Please be sure to deactivate your account before you uninstall (dashboard > "my account" > "deactivate")
• Please be sure to reboot when prompted by the removal tool
• It's a good idea to reboot again after the reinstall

The slow start up on your computer may be caused by the update you installed. However, for us to fully identify the root cause, we need to gather additional information. Kindly answer the following:

• What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
• are you getting any error messages when starting up your computer? If so, can you send us a screenshot? Make sure that you remove all personal information.
• What is the current version and build number of your computer? To get the information, kindly follow the steps below:
  • Click on the Start menu.
  • Type winver.
  • Press Enter.

In the meantime, we suggest that you boot the computer in Safe Mode. This will start your Windows in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers. Please follow the steps provided on this

link. Once in Safe Mode, kindly check if you will still experience the same issue.

Why can't I change my screen brightness with Windows 10?

Hi, a recent W10 update within the last week has somehow affected my brightness control on the screen. I use a HP Pavilion g6 laptop. Up until then the brightness control was working fine.

I have carried out the instructions you specify, but it still is not working. I normally get a graded scale on the screen indicating brightness level, but even that does not come up.

Please help in sorting this out as I do adjust the brightness level according to my circumstance.
