Windows 10: Why is Chrome hammering my hard drive ?

I notice that if I leave Chrome alone for ten minutes or so and don't do anything else, it hammers my hard drive. What the heck is it doing?
I have an app called "what is my computer doing", I saw the hdd light flickering and thought, "hold on I only have chrome open." And sure enough, only Chrome was accessing the hdd. I closed Chrome and the light stopped.

Is Chrome doing something I don't know about? I don't like excessive hdd access esp when its Google ...

any comments?
(I have indexing and all that stuff turned off btw)

Hi Paul,

Not worried about warranty- phone only owes me £100, so if and when it goes wrong, will use a 4lb lump hammer on it. Same treatment as dead puter hard drives, lol.

Read RAW file system *WITHOUT* formatting or converting to NTFS

The windows OS is installed on the same Hard Disk but on a different partition.

Chrome OS doesnt support the reading of other partitions on the same hard drive, so I cannot access my windows files from chrome. However during the installation Chrome OS process, when I get to try the OS without installing it (i.e. it is booted from my
USB) I am able to view all my windows files since it is on a separate hard drive.

I can see the chrome partitions on disk managment and even on My Computer. However when I try to open it, it returns the error that the disk must be formatted due to corruption or an unrecognised file system.

I did search for 3rd party software, but I didnt find any. Thats why I came here, to see if anyone knows of any solution or 3rd party software to do the job with.

 

Check Chrome's tasks manager for high usage, it might be related to some app or extension.
