Windows 10: Why is F drive showing NTFS and access is denied? How to solve it?

I have been using Windows 10. I used an external memory card on my laptop and found that one of my drives, "F," is showing NTFS, and access is denied. Now, I need to learn how to solve this problem. I tried to open the properties and hit on the security tab>advanced button.Then, I found that the owner was changed from System to Administrator. What's the problem? How I can solve the problem?

Most of the time, when your external hard drive shows that error message, it suggests that you don’t have the privilege of accessing to the disk partition. We need to get a permit to take ownership of the drive. Follow the steps below:

• Open File Explorer.
  
• Right-click your hard drive, then select Properties.
  
• Go to Security tab.
  
• Click Advanced, then select Edit.
  
• On the Owner tab, modify the ownership of the specified account.
  
• Click Apply, then OK.

Access denied to external drive

I have a high capacity NTFS formatted external drive that gives me Access denied error.

I previously had it permanently plugged into one of these, although infrequently used, and recently encountered this problem.

I have attempted all remedies I could find, on this and similar forums:

• I tried on a different Windows 10 Pro PC
• chkdsk /f
• sfc /scannow
• reset owner of all contents

I am working with Administrator privileges.

All these process executed successfully but did not enable access.

When I run CMD with administrator priviliges I do get read/write access.

I can see that I have effective ownership.

But I cannot gain access from within Windows even with Admin privileges.

It is not practical to backup the contents and reformat. I dont have a similar sized drive. (2000GB)

What else can I try?

Hi. A couple of days ago i had some problems with my external hard drive as one program (Battle.net) would not start. So i tried setting it so i had access to this folder, subfolders and files. What happened was that instead of showing the amount of space
on the disk it just shows NTFS and everytime i try to open it i get the error message "F:/ is not accessible. Access denied.

I know that all the files are still intact as I have run a diagnostic on it to check. I also tried making an image file with a backup program, just to make sure that i won't lose anything, i then reformated the disk and restored everything to the disk but i
still get the same error.

I'm running on windows 10 and the external hard drive is a WD My passport Ultra.

Any help would be amazing!
