Windows 10: Why is folder inheritance not being followed?

I have folders that sometimes do not follow the parent folders inheritance. Sometimes it works other times it does not.I have seem questions from 2012 asking the same, but without answerDoes anyone have a solution?Windows 2012

Inherit permission from the parent folder in Windows Server 2012R2

Hi,

I understand that you want the child folder to inherit the permissions from the parent folder. You can try the following steps and check if that helps:

1. Right click on the folder to which you want to provide permission.
   
2. Click on Security tab.
   
3. Click on Advanced.
   
4. Click on Enable Inheritance and.
   
5. Click on Apply and OK.
   

If that doesn’t help, as you are using Windows Server 2012R2, I would suggest you to post your query in

Read Only Folders by default following Windows 10 updates

Hi Ian,



To better assist you, we'd like to know if you are the only user on your computer. If so, you can follow the steps listed below:

• Right-click on your C Drive, and choose Properties.
• Go to Security tab.
• Click Advanced, then Change Permissions.
• Highlight the user, and click Edit.
• Choose This folder, subfolders and files under Applies to.
• Choose Full Control under Basic Permissions.
• Hit OK.

If there are other users on the computer, follow the steps below:

• Go to C Drive.
• Right-click your user name in Users folder, then click
  Properties.
• Go to Security tab.
• Click Advanced, then click Continue.
• Click Enable Inheritance.

After performing the steps, please restart your computer.

Downloads folder is the Documents folder

I suggest you to Restore to Default the folders and document settings and see if it helps.

Step 1:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Download folder.
• Right click on the Download Folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

Step 2:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Documents folder.
• Right click on the Document folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

After performing above steps change the settings as you required and check if it helps.
