  1. Why is it when I plug in my USB device that it shows both com 5 and com 6 as the serial ports

I'm using Windows 11 trying to flash an esp 32s2 dev board on Arduino IDE and I can't for the life of me find out why Windows is saying I have 2 serial ports in use. nothing else is plugged in. I looked in device manager and it shows both com5 and 6 in use when plugged in and when removed it shows both disconnecting as well.

    :)

Changing the Port settings for Serial-USB.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

If you want to change the port settings, please follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Open Device manager (right click on start button
      and then on Device manager).
    2. Then expand port (COMS & LPT).
    3. Then right click on Prolific USB-to Serial Comm Port and then on properties.
    4. Go to port settings and click on Advanced.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Serial port connections are not detected, and COM port option is not showing in Device Manager.

Com port as in Serial port or parallel port

Plug n play or legacy ports?

There should already be drivers loaded in device manager

Use the add hardware wizard and install the port from the list and restart PC.

Unable to find USB Serial Port (Ports COM & LPT) in Device Manager Windows 11

Hi, I'm Robinson, and I’m happy to help you today.

I know how frustrating this may be for you but I'll do my very best to help you.

This problem is caused when the driver is not installed, is installed in the wrong version, or is not compatible with Windows 11. You will need to check the manufacturer's website for the latest version and install the driver manually.

Once you downloaded the latest driver version:

    1-Open the Device Manager

    2-Connect the USB Serial Port

3-Click to expand the Other Devices, then check if it is recognized as an unknown device, or click on "Universal Serial Bus Controller" and check if it is recognized

4-Right-click on the USB Serial Port or unknown device and select Update driver

5-Click on the option "Browse my computer for drivers"

6-Click on the option "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"

7-Select "Multi-port serial ports" from the list and click on next

8-Click on "Have disk..." in the bottom right corner

9-Click on Browse and select the driver that you downloaded and follow the instructions
