win 10 will not allow me to open McAfee

Let’s try simple troubleshooting steps and check if this helps in resolving the issue. I would suggest you to un-install/re-install McAfee and check.

• 
  Press Windows key + X and select
  Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on Programs and features, right click on the
  McAfee and select uninstall it.
  
• 
  Now install it again.

By default install, McAfee with push updates automatically or your can force them manually.
Now that is for your existing version.

You might wish to check to see if a newer product is available - there might be a migration path. Maybe free, maybe paid.

As for performance, McAfee and Norton tend to be about the same in most instances.

McAfee and Norton

After downloading and starting Windows 10, I noticed the McAfee shortcut was no longer on my desktop. After a search I found all the folders etc. in a file called Windows.old. A friend also told me the same thing occurred with their Norton AV s/w and they
hadn't found any way of getting it back.

I want McAfee on my system and running, how do I get there from here???
