    Why is mdsched so unreliable?

Because of repeated BSODs (memory management, page fault, and numerous others), problems with installers, and certain programs running unstable, I ran mdsched to test my RAM. The tool reported zero errors, and even after a couple of runs kept insisting that everything's fine, even though it clearly is not.

After some other unsuccessful troubleshooting, I ran memtest86. And lo and behold, it immediately started spewing heaps and heaps of errors at me, about 800k in a single pass, all of them in the 12-14 GB range. So how can it be that the memory testing tool included in Windows is unable to detect such a glaringly faulty memory module?

And just for the record, yes, I do realize that no memory testing software can ever be 100% reliable. But still, this discrepancy really seemed kinda odd to me.

  2. Mdsched

Windows 10 (latest version) would randomly freeze and on hard shutoff give the BSOD - "Memory management"

Ran MdSched. With Standard option it ran two passes and found no problem.

Tried same with extended option. Test froze at 21% of first pass. No problem had been detected at time it froze.

I ran Chkdsk and no problems. I ran sfc/scannow with no problem.

I then ran Mdsched three more times with both standard and extended options. Same result as above.

  3. Windows 10 detecting hard disk problems

    Hello Bolt,

Apology for the delay in response.

I suggest you to go for Memory Diagnostics manually by following the below steps.

    * To open Memory Diagnostics Tool, click Start button, in the search box, type
mdsched, and then select the same from the list.‌ If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    * Select Restart now and check for problems(recommended). Before selecting the same, ensure to close all running applications and files by saving them.

Also I suggest you to go for a complete system scan using Windows Defender or with any available Antivirus software, to make sure that no virus is causing the problem.

Keep us posted how it went.
