Windows 10: Why is Microsoft blocking Opera GX??

Problem:On June 25, 2025, Microsoft Family suddenly decided to block Opera GX for no apparent reason. It only gave me the ask for permission prompt three times before just closing Opera GX without reason every time I open it. I've been using Opera GX for years now without problems, and it's just a harmless search engine. I did see someone else had a similar problem, and they were able to fix it by leaving their Microsoft Family, but I can't do that because that would kick me out of OneDrive and Outlook, which I use regularly. I need Opera GX back because it holds a lot of very important inform

Hello,

I have Microsoft Family Safety (MSFS) with all the content and download controls enabled. For example my son can only use the Edge browser, and in the App and Game Limits section of the MSFS site, I can see all the various browsers blocked, including Opera.

But he was still able to download "Opera GX Internet Browser". This appears to be a browser for gamers, but I assume it's also a fully-functional browser where he can hit any website he likes without MSFS blocking content.

So can MS either 1) add Opera GX to the default list of blocked browsers, or 2) tell me that Opera GX is not a fully-functional browser, or is somehow controlled by MSFS, and I shouldn't worry about my son visiting bad sites.

Okay, I recommend that you run the Opera GX as Administrator.

Right-click the Opera GX launcher/shortcut > click Run as administrator.
