  1. Why is Microsoft encouraging seniors to wipe out their PCs? (resetting)

I'm curious if anyone can provide any insight into a situation that's causing severe depression in our more senior residential clients as well as our support staff who have to charge these elderly people money they can't really afford. I'm not exaggerating at all, this is a legitimate issue our company is facing and I'm hoping I can understand how it happens.

We spend a few hours setting up an elderly customer's PC, placing icons where they want them, really opening up the operating system, setting up their printer, installing incredimail (ugh, I know), and getting the system exactly how they like it.

Customer uses system for a year or so then suddenly they call us, sometimes crying, because everything is gone.

We send a tech on site to evaluate and we can see clear as day that they reset their PCs which wiped out all our work and we have to do the job again.

Does anyone know how they're doing this? Is there a popup that says, "Please wipe out your computer to make it run better?" I see when I go into settings, Recovery, "Reset this PC" there's this insane suggestion to make it better by resetting it - is this how they're doing it? Is there a registry key to block that?

    :)

How to factory reset Cisco 1700 Router

Hopefully I can help you here....its a very common thing to happen.

First, I take it you dont know the passwords for console access or telnet/ssh?

I will assume that these devices belong to you.

step 1. Plug a cisco console cable into a serial port on your pc
step 2. Plug other end into Cisco console port
step 3. Using hyperterm or putty or similar connect to the serial port
step 4. boot router, and make sure you clearly can see the output (this confirms you have good serial comms)
step 5. if this fails, adjust the comm port settings (9600, 8,1,n are the default)
step 6. now you have to do the only hard part...send the break command:

    Break command list: Break Commands

Go down the list and match your OS and SW and try the sequence suggested.

If this fails several times do what I do: Install putty (free) and then to send a break so you can get into rommom just hit "ctrl-a b".

Google Chrome keeps resetting bookmarks position

Can you list what tasks/steps you've done thus far in your attempt to resolve it?

Have you logged off your profile (if using Sync) and done a complete wipe of the browser?

How about uninstall and then wipe any remaining data?

Do you have another device you can sort on that it works fine or you could test with?
