Windows 10: WHY IS MS FORCING ONEDRIVE ON users and DELETING THEIR HARD DRIVE COPY OF FILES

I want to know who the IDIOTS were who decided it was PERFECTLY FINE TO REMOVE DELETE MY FIles form my DOCUMENTS FOLDER ON MY PC and MOVE THEM TO ONEDRIVE when I upgraded to WIN 11!!!I was NOT ASKED if I wanted to do this and I have CRITICAL DOCS that are NO LONGER ON MY HARD DRIVE and not in ONEDRIVE!!!This is IDIOTIC and CONTROLLING!!!MS this is UNACCEPTABLE and wreaks of CENSORSHIP and "BIG BROTHER" Tactics!!!!

Recent shortcuts for apps show files on OneDrive instead of local hard drive

I was able to follow the steps and uncheck the "Use Office apps to sync" box but it didn't change Office's behavior. I opened and closed an Excel spreadsheet on my local hard drive. After that, when I right-clicked on the Excel icon pinned to the taskbar, a link to the OneDrive cloud file was in the list of recent files instead of a link to the file on my hard drive.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Accidentally activated OneDrive - would like to restore all files back to my hard drive and delete/deactivate OneDrive

Yes, they are still in their folders on the local drive - Desktop, Documents, Music, Pictures, Video.

I'm mainly concerned with the files on Desktop and Documents. I can put these copied files on an external hard drive or USB drive and then do what you suggested above.

My only question is, I currently have "Sync and back up" turned off for all folders. Should I turn this back on and sync after copying externally and before proceeding with your steps? Or just download everything as it is from OneDrive without trying to Sync again?

Once I move all of these files that I "copied" to an external drive, my desktop and documents folders on the local disk will be appear empty. So, if I sync again, what files is OneDrive now syncing?

May we know what type of file are you trying to delete? Would it be Office documents, media files, or picture files? If you're trying to delete files for free some space on your device. We suggest to perform a Disc Cleanup. Kindly follow the steps below to
