Windows 10: why is MsMpEng so recently created on my device?

I have seen many people experience issue with the Antimalware Service Executable MsMpEng. my problem is that it was consuming resources on my PC so used task manager to go to file location. when i was greeted with a file labeled "MsMpEng." I checked it properties and it had the description "Antimalware Service Executable" and created on ‎Wednesday, ‎March ‎5, ‎2025, ‏‎3:06:45 PM which confused me as it was the 30th of march and I have had windows defender for quite a while. does anyone know why this file was created so recently? is it a malware pretending to Antimalware Service Executable?He

• Confirm which build is currently installed on your device. To check, follow the steps below:

1. Press Windows key + R, then type in winver.
2. Click OK.

• What is the make and model of your computer?
• Were there any recent changes made prior to this issue?
• Does the issue also happen to other games or application?

Upon researching, some users had suggested that configuring the launch options fixed the issue:

1. Go to Steam's Library.
2. Right-click on the affected game.
3. Go to Properties > General > Set launch options...
4. Type in "-dxlevel 90" or "-dxlevel81"
5. Click OK.

How to "set affinity" for msmpeng when getting "access is denied"

Hi,

I'm unable to set or change process affinity for msmpeng (Windows Security Virus & threat protection). I'm logged-in with admin privileges. System is Windows 10 Pro 64bit. Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.928).

Does anyone know the steps to follow to achieve this? Thanks!
