Windows 10: Why is my computer suddenly experiencing issues and why is my windows task bar not working

A lot of things have been happening and I couldn’t really find any information on what is happening. So here’s the main order of events. Before I continue I want to say that I am very inexperienced and I’m an amateur when it comes to this stuff. When I first turned on my pc I was unexpectedly met with the blue screen of death. After I shut down the pc I pulled out the CMOS battery out of the motherboard and put it back in 5 minutes later. Upon turning on the pc I was no longer met with the blue screen but instead was unable to use the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. I have to wait 5 minut

Cannot modify Task Bar settings

• Right click on the Task Bar.
• Uncheck the option " Lock the Taskbar."

Task Bar Issues - Shortcuts not working

This issue might occur if there is change in taskbar icons settings.



I suggest you to follow the steps below to turn off Volume icon and then re-enable it. Try to update all the pending Windows updates.

Step 1: I suggest you to also turn off and then turn on volume icon from taskbar.

1. Click on Search bar.

2. Type "Turn System icons on or off" without the quotes in the search bar and click on it.

3. Then turn off Volume and other system icons.

Step 2: Then try to unpin the taskbar icons such as Outlook and try to search for it in Search bar. After that try to pin back the icon taskbar.



Step 3: I suggest you to update all the pending Windows updates in the computer and check if it helps.

1. Click on Start Menu.

2. Then select Settings.

3. Choose Update & security >
Windows Update >Check for updates. Install any available updates and restart your PC if required.

• What exactly happens when you try to access Start menu? Is it not responding?
• Are you getting any error message?
• What exactly happens with taskbar? Is it freezing?

You may follow the steps provided below and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Method 1

Step: 1 Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip:
Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.

Step: 2 Click File > Run New Task

Step: 3 Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”

Step: 4 Type PowerShell

Step: 5 Type the following in the PowerShell prompt:

$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest

Step: 6 Close the PowerShell window

Step: 7 Reboot

Method 2:

I would also suggest you to run the System update readiness command. It detects incorrect manifests, cabinets or registry data, it may replace the incorrect data with corrected version available. Follow the steps.

• Press Windows key + X.
• Click command prompt (Run as administrator).
• In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press
  Enter key after each command:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type
Exit, and then press Enter.
