  1. Why is my laptop not registering my microphone as an input device?

I have an Asus Vivobook X15EA_X1500EA intel i7 11th gen laptop using Windows 11, I have a rhode nt1 microphone using a Behringer U-Phoria UM2 Audio Interface to connect it to my laptop. I can't use the microphone because it is only being picked up as an output device and I can't seem to figure out why or how to fix it? I have installed Asio4all audio drivers and my tech friends have helped but can't figure out a solution. Can someone please advise me on what I could possibly do? Thank you in advance!

    :)

My laptop microphone isn't detected as an audio input device when I plug in headphones.

I have been using a pair of bluetooth headphones for the past couple of weeks with my laptop. I use the audio output of the headphones along with my laptop's built in microphone as it is better quality. Today however, windows stopped recognizing my laptop microphone as an audio input while my headphones are connected. I am able to use the microphone whenever the headphones are not connected. My microphone input is listed as "Microphone Array (AMD Audio Device)" and remains listed while the headphones are connected, but produces no sound and is not detected by programs like Sound Recorder.

It was working fine until I attempted to disable "Handsfree Telephony" to stop the audio quality from lowering. After I re-enabled this setting, I ran into the issue.

Windows Update messed with audio input devices (microphones)

    Hello,

I updated my laptop yesterday, and today, I noticed that none of my audio input devices were functioning correctly. At first, I thought the problem was with my headset microphone, but even the preinstalled microphone array was not working.

While troubleshooting, I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and updating drivers, and I even played with privacy and microphone access settings. I also restarted my laptop a dozen times, but none of these steps helped.

To make things worse, the option to roll back from the Windows update "is no longer available on this PC," according to the settings app.

I plugged and unplugged my headset several times. Plus, I am aware that my headset has a mute button and that my laptop came with a microphone mute/unmute button, but I don't think that is the cause of the problem, as the preinstalled array itself does not detect any audio. Can you help me resolve this issue?

    Edit: I additionally tried:

    • Using the troubleshooter.
    • Messing with the 'default device' settings.
    • Turning off the audio enhancements.
    • Restarting the Windows Audio service in Services.

  4. Why is my laptop not registering my microphone as an input device?

Windows not registering programs as requiring microphone

I am using an application that requires microphone input, and for the last few months, there has been an inability for any audio input to function through the app. I finally figured out that windows is not registering the app as one that requires a microphone,
and is denying it access to using the mic. My question is if there is any way to add applications to the list of permissions under the microphone tab in the privacy settings. (The app I am using is Discord)
