Windows 10: Why is my name showing up on "NETWORK" ?

When you want to use a Microsoft app that requires a Microsoft account (like the Windows Store), you can enter your MS Account username and password for just that app, you don't have to convert your whole computer user account to a MS Account login.

when creating the SHARE why not give the SHARE a different name -- so for example to share your folder just on the "sharing" computer create a share with a different name - that's the one that will be seen on the remote computer

I haven't logged on to Windows but it's identical with SAMBA where the name of the share seen on the remote computer doesn't have to be the same as the actual Real file name.

On Windows it's in Properties-->sharing where you can create the share name.

In Linux it's in the smb.conf file (Samba) for example here's an extract from the smb.conf file.

[Television]
comment TV series
path = /mnt/DV2/TV
guest ok = yes
writeable = yes
browseable = yes

[DVDs]
comment DVD isos
path = /mnt/DV1/DVDs
guest ok = yes
writeable = yes
browseable = yes

[Datastore]

comment VM's, Backups, data
path = /mnt/DV1/Data
guest ok = yes
writeable = yes
browseable = yes



For example the remote computer sees the name Datastore while the actual directory is called Data.







The mega irritant with using an Ms account is that the wretched screen lock displays your email address on it --what sort of security is that Ms !!!!!!. especially in large offices where policy is that you have to lock your screen when leaving the computer (if you don't need to switch it off) - and there could be LOADS of people wandering around both internal and external. Even using a Home computer on a train --you might need to go to the Bar etc and lock your screen while going to get your drink -- shows your email address in full public view --what on earth were you thinking of Ms when you designed that lockscreen POS. !!!!!
