  1. Why is my Paint 3D app in "Open With" menu replaced with "Microsoft WinRT Storage API"?

So few weeks ago I restarted my PC because of an update. After the update everything seemed okay at first until I opened context menu on an image went to Open With and I saw that Paint 3D was replaced with WinRT Storage API and I had no idea why. I wanted to live with it not being able to open but it's been really annoying.I tried googling the problem but it was no help I even tried ChatGPT but it was just saying nonsense.P.S.: I tried to send an screenshot but it said something went wrong and a big sad emoji saying not found :

    :)

  2. Open with - Microsoft WinRT Storage API

Just noting that unfortunately the steps listed here do not work in all cases - it hasn't worked on either my desktop or laptop PCs.

    • On my desktop the "Microsoft WinRT Storage API" open with option was somehow linked with ClipChamp - I did try uninstalling and reinstalling that in a similar way (as well as the paint and photo apps) but no luck.
    • On my laptop the "Microsoft WinRT Storage API" open with option isn't linked with any other app.
I've since tried completely removing the OpenWithList registry entries for ".jpg" and even that had no effect, even though it recreated a blank registry entry. So I don't know where the menu items are coming from!

  3. paint 3D turned into Microsoft WinRT Storage API and i cant open images by open with option

hi i tried using the cmd method it did a scan and a fix to my drives but still the problem persist

then i tried Powershell but still no luck

finally i tried to repair and reset the app but that didn't work either

i uninstalled paint 3d but i still see Microsoft WinRT Storage API in the open with menu

i think the only way to fix it is to remove it entirely or remove Microsoft WinRT Storage API , do you maybe know how?

  4. Why is my Paint 3D app in "Open With" menu replaced with "Microsoft WinRT Storage API"?

Open with - Microsoft WinRT Storage API

    Hi Mark,

    //But I don't know if doing this is a bad idea?//

Glad you located the problematic ProgID. You can safely remove the value "AppXvsqkg1th80rv6s2rkh5m1hjp3hxryydd" from the OpenWithProgIDs key.

//But maybe there is a better way of doing this!//

You can try this command from PowerShell admin:

    • get-appxpackage *clipchamp* -allusers | remove-appxpackage
And use DARF.vbs (optionally) to see if there are remnant entries related to Clipchamp.

    Edit:

Fix: “Microsoft WinRT Storage API” Appears in Open With Menu
