Windows 10: Why is my usb not working properly?

For some reason my usb drive is connecting and then disconnecting after a few seconds. I have tried restarting, putting it in different ports, blowing away the dust inside and holding it in but nothing works! I can't factory reset my device or usb since it has important files and since the usb isn't working I can't move anything. Please help.

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Windows has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Hardware and Devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue
is with your Devices.

Refer these steps:

• 
  Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.
  
• 
  Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.
  
• 
  Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel.
  
• 
  Run the Hardware and Devices.
  

If the issue persist I suggest you to follow method 2.

Method 2: I suggest you to updating the latest USB devices from the manufacturer's website and check if the issue persists.

Follow the steps to update the USB drivers:

a. Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.

b. Expand the USB driver.

c. Right-click on the USB and click on Update driver software.

d. Restart the computer and check.

What is the make and model of your computer?

Follow the steps below and check if that helps.

I suggest you to Update USB Controllers.

To update the USB Controllers from Device Manager follow these steps.

• Go to Device manager in control panel.
• Select Device manager and a Device Manager window will pop-up.
• Double Click on USB Controllers to expand.
• Right click on the USB Controllers that is listed and select Update.

If the issue still persists uninstall and reinstall USB drivers from manufacturer website.
