    Why is my Windows 10 paging file so big?


    Right now, I'm running on my PC Windows 10 Pro 19045 with all the updates installed. I verify through the photo I send attached that currently the size of the paging file that is being managed automatically by the system is about 8Gb. Considering that I am using a SATA SSD disk and 8GB of RAM this size is not too large? Any suggestions for help will be welcomed. Thanks in advance. Greetings. Hugo.

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Set minimum and maximum to a constant number as suggested by others, that will help reduce fragmentation on the drive coz of different page file sizing.

    With modern HDD's and systems it's not as big of a deal as it used to be, I would say at least have a 1GB pagefile if you have 4GB of ram. There are some programs and parts of windows that won't be too happy about no pagefile. I've ran without, with a small page file and with a larger page file, really not a huge diff with 4GB of RAM, but I got less errors in some programs when I had a page file.

    Windows was designed to use it, I'd recommend leaving it active. *Toast :toast:
