Windows 10: Why is my Windows 11 PC failing to recognize one particular USB HD while it recognizes...

I have had this issue with 2 Windows 11 computers. Soetimes it sees the in question USB Drive and somtimes it doesn't quite frustrating. Problem is I have all my backiup files on that drive. There seems to be no pattern to the failure. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,Don

USB Device Not Recognized (Malfunctioned)

Just had this problem recently, a cmos clear corrected it. One item you can check to see is if the bios recognizes anything by loading its "boot from" menu and checking for any USB mass storage listed.

 

USB not recognized error

My dad just bought an HTC Desire phone. He is not interested in synching it with his pc, but whenever he plugs the phone in through USB it gives an error saying that there was a malfunction and usb drive not recognized. We tried it in 3 different pc's and it gives the same error.

Installing the HTC Sync driver didn't work either - the software says the phone is offline, and it still pops up on the bottom right of the pc monitor that there was a malfanction and the usb is not recognized.

Am I missing something or could it be that the cable or phone is faulty?

 

Some USB Devices not recognized in Windows 10

Hi have Windows 10 Pro insider preview 10532 64bit Pro Intel i7 desktop PC.

I have multiple USB devices connected, USB 3 & 2. The USB HDD is working however my Samsung phone and kindle are no longer being recognized. The steps followed so far:

• Uninstalled all USB devices in device manager including controllers
• Flashed BIOS to latest version
• Updated USB drivers for the devices from manufacturers sites
• Tried new USB cables

Please note: both devices are recognized by my Windows 10 Lenovo laptop.

I really don't want to fresh install, please suggest any diagnostics I can try.
