  1. Why is my Windows C Showing 118GB?

Hello, so I recently bought a product key for Windows 10 Pro and windows finally activated. Originally, the PC was home edition, but then I tried upgrading it to pro with a product key but that key wouldn't activate it. So I decided to buy one, which I thought it would fix the 118 gb limit, but apparently it hasn't. My friend has windows pro on her laptop (we have the same laptop) and her windows says 918 gigabytes, not 118. Any help?

What is this 118GB limit you talk of? Is it that your PC has a 1TB hard drive and you expect C: to use all of it? It appears that your manufacturer has partitioned the drive with two partitions. a C: drive for the system and a D: drive for your data. The rest of your disk space is in the D: drive. Your friend may have repartitioned their disk when installing Pro (or the partitions may have been merged after). As your machine stands you have a completely empty D: drive with 919GB available for you to store your data.

Run Disk Management (right-click on Start to find it) and post a screen shot. We can advise further once we've seen that.

Kitty the C-drive in your screen shot posted above looks like an SSD. I have pretty much the exact same partitions on this laptop, and my SSD is also 118 GB.

As you're probably aware, programs will install on the C-drive by default, so you may want to consider moving some of them off of there, and on to your larger D-drive.

  6. Sorry guys I am horrid with computers. So I was just always annoyed with why every time I installed a program it would go to my C drive, and then I would always run out of data and not be able to install anymore programs. I am a huge gamer so I thought that 118 gb was my limit.

How would I go about merging them?

You could merge or resize two partitions on the same drive, but you have two drives.

As @roblinb says, looks like C: is an SSD and D: is on a normal hard drive. Make a 'Programs' folder on your D: drive and install your new programs there, there's lots of space for them.

  9. But here is what I am confused about, this is my friend's drive.

And we have the exact same computer, except her's came with pro. Is there anyway I could get my two disk to merge? Would that cause any problems? Or am I better off just making my programs go into my data drive.

Your two disk are separate drives. Drive C: is probably a SSD and Drive D: a HDD. Your friends Laptop must have a different setup than yours.

I don't think you have the exact same computer...... it looks like yours is better , in that you have a Boot SSD for windows (128gb probably seen as about 119 ) and a 1TB HDD for Programs and Games, backups etc as well .
Your's should boot up faster than her's if it has a SSD.

The two separate Drives can not be merged.

It is actually better that way , if all your Data is on the HDD (D) , if you need to reinstall windows , you can do it without wiping out your Data.

You can actually change the location of your Libraries on C:\ to D:\ and free up space on C:\ too , and you won't lose them if windows crashes either that way.
