Windows 10: Why is my windows photo viewer skipping backwards several pics while viewing pics from a...

Windows photo viewer is skipping backwards several pics while viewing pics from a folder. I'm using windows 10. The computer is only 3 years old. The problem started a few weeks ago.Haven't tried anything, I haven't a clue.

Unfortunately, the problem remains the same. After rebooting it let me open half a dozen pics using the Photos app, as I originally wanted. I could see each pic the same size in the same window. Success, I thought.

Then it simply stopped. After those first few pics it stopped opening photos and the same message appears: 'The app didn't start.'

I tried going back to the beginning and doing the steps you advised at the start but the same process happened.

It's driving me mad. A nearly new computer and it can't do a simple thing like show me pictures.

What's next? Any suggestions?

Viewing pics and photos

Almost all my pics are .PNG or .JPG.

Neither files will open automatically on Windows 10. I CAN open them if I click on Open With and use Paint or Irfan view. But not only is that very time consuming, the pics appear as their actual size. So I have to manually reduce the size of the bigger
files to see the whole pic. Even more time-consuming.

Is there a simple program that will simply open all pics and photos in one normal size window at the same size? Past Windows used to open all pics in one regular sized window and allow you to reduce or increase the size to zoom in or out. Simple.

I've tried setting Photos as Default App and that has no effect (and I'm not even sure it is the solution I seek).

Any suggestions, please?

Some Pics won't open on windows 7 with Photo Viewer, files are good and open with other viewers even with Paint. Also thumbnails are showing properly in explorer window
