Windows 10: Why is my Xbox One remote working as a mouse through cloud gaming on the Xbox companion app?

I’ve tried updating the remote through Xbox accessories but it says it’s up to date. Just more or less lost at the moment.

Xbox Console Companion not working

Thank you for your prompt response.

As mentioned, that Xbox Console Companion app is moving to Xbox app for Windows. Make use of the Xbox app for Windows to play games. All you need to do is sign in your Microsoft account that you use for your Xbox account and make sure to sign in too in Microsoft Store. With your concern on how to stream or remote play your Xbox Console using the Windows device, here are the steps:

1. First, enable the Sleep power option and remote features on your console.

• Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
  
• Go to Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Remote features.
  
• Select the Enable remote features checkbox.
  
• Under Power options, select Sleep.
  

Note If your console power mode isn’t set to Sleep, remote play won’t work.

2. Set up your Windows device for remote play

• Open the Xbox app for Windows.
  
• Select the Consoles icon next to the search box.
  
• Select the desired console you want to connect to.
  

Things to keep in mind:

• It's a good idea to save frequently while playing remotely. If you get disconnected from your console, you could lose progress in your game.
  
• If you close the app or do something else on your phone after starting your remote play session, you won't immediately lose your progress. After a period of time, your console will turn off and go to sleep. You can reconnect your session until the console turns off.
  
• Only one person at a time can play remotely, even if others are set up to connect remotely or locally.
  
• Microsoft Store and in-game purchases, and backward compatibility, are disabled during remote play with the Xbox mobile apps.
  

3. Pair a controller to your device

Xbox Console Companion not working

This is 100% a fail by MS. The xbox companion app got a new update and since this update the streaming feature is gone / broken so MS have to fix IMMEDIATELY because there is no other way to play on PC with your Xbox One X if it is not a Gamepass / cloud game.
