Windows 10: Why is notepad forcing me to save, even if autosave is turned on? WINDOWS 11

title, literally im going actually insane, i have to use task manager to close notepad so it autosaves, what is going on???It never used to be like that, it only started happening recently. Heres a photo:

Have you installed Windows 11 23h2 or the Moment 4 update? If so, it seems you have the autosave feature. Check in Notepad's Settings and check if you have the option "When Notepad starts".

If that option is set to "Open content to the previous session", autosave is active.

If you still want to be asked to save changes, set it to "Open a new window".

 

Why can't I turn on AutoSave in WORD?

Since I installed WIndows 11, when I am in WORD, there is an icon which indicates that AutoSave is off. When I go to turn it on, it says that "Mail Merge is interfering and to please complete the mail merge". Here is the problem. I do not use Mail Merge; I don't even know what it is. How can I turn on AutoSave? To be clear, does AutoASave mean that I will not longer have to "save" everytime I close the document I am working on?

 

Turn 'Word Wrap' off default in Notepad

I can repro the issue. Notepad doesn't seem to query the "word wrap" setting. This may have happened after the KB5022913 update, I think. Please report this in the FBH. Until this gets fixed, you can switch to classic Notepad using these steps:

1. Open Settings → Apps.
   
2. Expand “More settings” and click “App execution aliases.”
   
3. Disable the “Notepad” alias by turning off the radio button.
