Windows 10: Why is the date modified on a folder earlier than the date modified in that folder?

Folder 'Date Modified' EARLIER than 'Date Created'

I do NOT know how long this has been happening, but I just noticed it today. The problem appears to be related to just folders, and NOT files. When I create a NEW folder, the 'Date Created' and 'Date Modified' are the SAME. I have a Script that I created that I run once a day, or whenever I want, that backs up two folders with sub-folders. This has NOTHING to do with the Script, I am just using it as an example as it was easier to run in order to show what I mean. I have just run it [ 30-Aug-2022 at 21:11 ]. This shows the main folders, and the 'Date Created' and 'Date Modified' are the SAME. . . .

This shows the FIRST folder, and the 'Date Modified' is TWO days ago and about 11 hours earlier than the 'Date Created' . . .

The SECOND folder is just .log files and are OK. This shows the THIRD folder, and the 'Date Modified' is about 3.75 hours earlier than the 'Date Created' . . .

The Date & Time shown in the folders above is CORRECT. The clock shows the CORRECT Date & Time for the UK.



Has anyone got any ideas please ?

Setting aside that I never modified that file on that date, never even opened it in Word, but only previewed it on my OneDrive, that falsely updated Date Modified being a separate issue and a separate question I've asked, how is it that all the Date Modifieds of all the folders all the way up the file path C:/Users/hitrt/OneDrive/Documents/Miscellaneous/Home/Miscellaneous/391SJ/PurchaseAgreement.docx didn't change? I'm the only one with access to this computer, so I know it somehow happened, or rather failed to happen, automatically, but I just want an explanation as to how or why this is, how it can be that a document in a folder shows the same Date Modified as the subfolder it's in, but the subfolder that subfolder's in and every other folder up the line above it hasn't updated but shows an older date?

Brilliant, that is exactly what the answer is. I have just compared the original folders 'Date Created' and 'Date Modified' to the NEW folders 'Date Created' and 'Date Modified', and they tie up EXACTLY. I am using Robocopy by the way. Solved. Thank you. *Thumbs
