Windows 10: Why is the latest Windows Cumulative Update shown as Optional? Windows 10

I made a diary note to remind me that as yesterday 28th April was the last Tuesday in the month, there could be a Windows Update.


I decided to check my Settings to see if there had been one and this message appeared:




Surely it shouldn't be described as 'Optional'? It's far too important for that.


In addition, I've signed up to receive Microsoft Security Update Notifications & Microsoft Security Releases but there were no such emails this time.


Has Microsoft changed the procedures or was this this a 'one-off' blip?

Windows 10 Update

Well just noticed a pretty large one pop up coming in at 914MB, seems it makes some pretty serous updates.

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3156387) will not install

Anyone else having problems getting the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3156387) installed? This update has been failing for me & doing a failed to update after downloading & reboot, then rebooting & removing the update.

V 10.0 build 10240

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
