  1. Why is the path to a network directory different from different computers

I have my directory on a network drive. When I log in from different computers the path to it is different. On some it's //nas540/user directories/martin on some it's//nas540/user directories/recycle/martin. Any idea what's going on?

    :)

  2. Access to UNC path to same machine without network connection - differ in machines

    Hi,

I found out that I can access the shared directory pointing to the same machine using UNC path even though, there is no network connection. This behaviour is different another machine, where I cannot access
the shared directory to the same machine using UNC path without network connection.

What is it that making different machines behaving differently in terms of accessing shared directory that points to the same machine when there is not network connection?

    Kind regards,

    Misbah

  3. Access to UNC path to same machine without network connection - differ in machines

Accessing a shared folder without an active network connection is impossible. I suspect you mean "without mapping a share", e.g. like so:

    net use K: \\OtherPC\Share1

    or

    net use \\OtherPC\Share1

In order find out why you are unable to access a shared folder, you need to report what happens when you try. Use the commands you see above in a console screen (cmd.exe).

Why is the path to a network directory different from different computers

Change network path to a different user

I just got a new computer and I'm having a problem setting up my file system the way I want. After a crash on my other computer, the network path was ... \\DESKTOP-XXX##XX\\users\adbre (it truncated my name). I created another User Name XXXyyy (I want to
use this User/Profile Name) - to restore the files after servicing.

    - I was only able to create it as a local account and an administrator. Doing this causes problems when I save files. For instance, when I scanned a document - to copy it to the correct folder I had to click through 5 steps to get to the folder I wanted
to save it in. It's been a nightmare - a huge amount of lost time.

    - After getting my new computer I tried setting up a new directory under the \\Desktop-XXXXXX\users\ADxxxxxxx as my primary account. I was able to do that as a local account - BUT - the new computer came with all my folders & hierarchy from the old computer
    - all I don't want. They were on OneDrive. I have tried deleting them numerous times but they just come back.

    - I want my network path to be \\Desktop-XXXXXX\users\ADxxxxxxx. I created this as the local account with admin permissions (it wouldn't let me create it any other way) but I want my files to be available on all my devices - not just this one.

    - I've tried changing the username path for the original file (adbre) but I can't do this either. I've researched for answers but I can't find a solution. I hope someone can help me - I really thought when I got the new computer I could set things up like
I wanted but it has been a nightmare. I have been working on this for days & days & I really need to get back to doing REAL WORK.

    - Thanks in advance for anyone who can help!!!!
