Why is the System process in my Task Manager always using high resources CPU and affecting...

I haven't updated Windows because if I do, many updates will not be applied, and it causes the system process to constantly use high CPU. However, when I turn off updates and delete them, the CPU usage for system goes back to normal. Now, it has started using high CPU again. Occasionally, I also get a "power surge on USB port" error, but my USB devices still work fine. Even if I unplug them, the error persists, but sometimes the error doesn't show up and the system process continues to use high CPU. What could be causing this issue? I'm not sure what's triggering the high CPU usage and I'd lik

  2. The "system"process is using constant CPU in windows 11

The "System" process is a core Windows process that is responsible for managing various system resources, such as the CPU, memory, and disk. It is normal for the "System" process to use some CPU resources, but if it is using a constant high CPU usage, then there may be a problem.

Here are some possible reasons why the "System" process is using constant CPU usage in Windows 11:

    • Corrupt or outdated drivers: Outdated or corrupt drivers can cause the "System" process to use high CPU resources. You can update your drivers by going to the website of your computer manufacturer or device manufacturer and downloading the latest drivers for your device.
    • Malware: Malware can also cause the "System" process to use high CPU resources. You can scan your computer for malware using a reputable antivirus program.
    • Background processes: There may be background processes that are running and using up CPU resources. You can use Task Manager to identify and end these processes.
    • Hardware problems: If you have recently installed new hardware, it is possible that it is not compatible with your computer and is causing the "System" process to use high CPU resources. You can try uninstalling the new hardware or updating its drivers.
If you have tried the above steps and the "System" process is still using constant CPU usage, then you may need to contact Microsoft support for help.

System and compressed memory background process persistently consuming high CPU resources

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Please answer these questions to get more clarity on this issue:

    1. Did you make any changes to your computer prior to this issue?

    2. Which anti-virus program is installed on the PC?

    High CPU usage occurs for various reasons, for example: virus/malware infections, out-of-date drivers, anti-virus programs or other third-party programs, etc;

Method 1: Windows has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with system. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your System
    Maintenance.

    Refer these steps:

    • Press Windows key +X, select Control panel
    • Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
    • Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
    • Run the System Maintenance troubleshooter

Method 2: Check if the issue resolves in
    Safe Mode.

Refer this article to boot to safe mode:

    Windows help and learning

Steps to reduce the CPU usage.

1-Press "Ctrl," "Shift," and "Esc" on your keyboard. This brings up the task manager without any intermediary screen.

2-Click the "Processes" button on the task manager.

3-Click the "CPU" column header until the arrow next to the label points down.

4-Right-click a program you recognize that uses a high percentage of the CPU and click "End Process." Click "End Process" to reconfirm. This eases up on the CPU's load. Use this step if you're not using a process or if the process has stopped responding. Do
not use this procedure for windows processes.

Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.

    Thanks.

CPU @ 100% in Task Manager.. but in error

Sailindawg, did Resource Monitor show some silly high % use, in the millions/billions? Does the 'Details' tab in Task Manager show 'System Idle Process' normal? It does sound like you have the same issue, I've still not fixed it. You might be lucky and a BIOS update works for you as it has others, I'm stuck on the B2 stepping which means I can't upgrade the BIOS *Sad

MrPumpkin, what process does task manager say is using the most CPU usage?
