    Why is there no way to change the default File Save As to "STL" instead of the default of "3mf"? I do a lot of 3D Printing and its a real PITA to have to change the SAVE AS file type every time I save a file. We Need to be able to change the default type in 3D Builder. Every other program has it. So, why not put the setting in 3D Builder. Otherwise, 3D Builder is a GREAT TOOL for Novice to Expert 3D Modelers!

    Hey gdeconto,

    I'm a 3D Builder engineer. I'm sorry to say that there is not a way to (or hack) to make STL the default file type. It is a great suggestion though.

    Please open the Feedback App and under the feedback tab (in the 'Apps and Games' Category, '3D Builder' subcategory) open a suggestion feedback with this request. Leaving it there will let other people see the feedback and upvote it. If we see the suggestion
    get some traction with users upvotes we will add it to our todo list.

    Is there any way/hack to make STL the default file type for Open and Save As in 3D Builder?

    I use a number of 3d packages and .STL is the most commonly used format for the models we use

    3D Builder defaults to using the .3MF format for Open and for Save As, which is not supported by any of my other tools

    Is there a registry hack, or other method, for changing the default format for Open and for Save As to .STL

    It would save me time and effort.

    default app to open .STL file

    Why is it when I try to open an STL file from within the WinZip application I keep getting a popup asking if I still want to use Mixed Reality Viewer - or any other program I previously chose to be default for STL files?

    If I unzip the file and open the STL file directly or if I open the ZIP file from the left pane of File Explorer (not using WinZip) then click the STL, I don't get the popup. It appears to only happen with STL files, but I have only tried TXT, JPG, and HTML
    files.
