Windows 10: why is windows 10 giving me windows 8 updates?

i upgraded to 10 from windows 7, but i recently got some windows 8/8.1 updates for the malicious software removal tool. anyone have some idea as to why? thank you in advance...

Where did you get this "Clonezilla" from? Clonezilla is nothing to do with Ubuntu. I use it all the time to make disk images and I've never seen that.

So I downloaded the Clonezilla ISO in an attempt to clone my partition and place it somewhere else, and I put it into a 2 gb flash drive.

When I booted from it, it came up with this:

clicked on Windows recovery environment, and it brought me to this screen:



The
screen is now stuck like that, and I can’t do anything except power it off and go back to this same place.

Does anyone know what is happening and why Clonezilla is giving me this?

not sure what you mean. can you elaborate? same as what? i didn't think the malicious software removal tool was included in windows 10 by default and i haven't downloaded it. to be honest, i haven't poked around extensively in windows 10 yet. perhaps it is in there somewhere. Defender is installed and i have been getting the updates for that. thanks!

It is included in W10 monthly updates and yes, its called and appears as Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 x64 Edition - May

 

I looked for it last night. not found in control panel nor searching 'malicious'. i'll try again tonight searching 'mrt' as suggested in the link you provided. thanks!

 

Its under 'installed updates'.

 

Thanks. I wasn't looking for the update. I was looking for the application.

 

The tool runs as soon as it has been installed... you have no control over that. When its finished I believe it automatically deletes itself ready for the next one in a months time.

You can run it manually.

type mrt into the run box
