Windows 10: Why is Windows 10 Startup Repair not accepting my correct Windows account login password?

I have opted to use my Microsoft account to login to my Windows 10 PC. I have setup a PIN that is different than my Microsoft account login password to use to login to my PC at startup.When I go to Startup Repair, it asks me for my password. But when I enter either my Windows account login password, or my Windows 10 login PIN, neither is recognized as a valid password. So what password am I supposed to be using for Startup Repair? This doesn't make any sense to me. Is there some 3rd password for my Windows 10 administrator account that I need to be using instead? If so, how do I make that pass

Windows Startup password

Is it possible to remove a startup password without being able to log into the system? A friend's laptop just prompt her today for a password that she never enabled. Now, she does have a standard user account password, but that doesn't work for the startup password. She had the computer for about a year now and it has never asked for a startup password until today.

I tried to use Hiren Boot CD to run a diagnostic on the laptop, but it has a bsod. Windows 10 normal boot crashes as well

Yes, I'm sure there wasn't a Microsoft account on the laptop. When I set it up, she didn't want one

So I had to do a factory restore on the laptop. All boot methods would crash. I found out the owner was duped into giving a scammer access to her computer. That's how the startup password got set.

See its not the same as the account login password prompt

Microsoft account doesn't accept reset correct password

We understand the difficulties you are facing while login to the PC using your Microsoft account.



In this scenario, we would suggest you to perform these steps and check if you are able to sign with the correct login credential in Safe mode. Also check if you are connected the PC to the internet, preferably through Ethernet cable.

1. At the login screen click on the power symbol.
   
2. Hold SHIFT key in the keyboard and click Restart.
   
3. After restarting your system, select the Troubleshoot option.
   
4. Select advanced options under
   Troubleshoot screen.
   
5. Click on Startup Settings
   
6. Click Restart and follow the onscreen steps to go to Safe Mode
   
7. Login with the correct password using the onscreen keyboard.
