Windows 10: Why is Windows 10 webcam app such utter BS?

I clicked on the video icon - it changed from camera to video - all good so far.


I didn't know how to start recording because its' so unintuitive - but I clicked the video camera icon again and it began to record - OK!


Minimized the cam and got on with the party.


Party over, check cam - it's recorded a 5" clip - WTF?


Looked in settings - there is an option which says "when I press and hold the camera button"


.......... and the default is "take one photo" - huh? what even in video mode??


FFS... so I changed it to "start capturing video"


Better luck next time.



So same thing - switch to video mode - check the setting - set to "start capturing video" this time.


OK - do a 30" test - seems to record 30" video.


OK - same again!


Party starts - hit the record button - see timecode start going up, ok, recording...


minimize window.


Post-party, check the app - WHERE THE HELL CAN I SEE THE RECORDINGS ANYWAY??"


have to check where it's recording to: C drive (brilliant smh)


go there, look under video - nothing.


look under pictures - there they are - my 30" test clip is there (it's a video guys, not a photo)


aaaaaaaaaaaand... my latest party video is a 5" clip again.


SERIOUSLY - HOW CAN YOU MAKE IT SO UTTERLY IMPOSSIBLE TO RECORD A SIMPLE EFFING VIDEO???


PEOPLE HAVE BEEN RECORDING VIDEOS ONLINE SINCE 1995 YET MICROSOFT STILL CAN'T DO IT??

This issue might have occurred due to corrupted/ outdated drivers on your device.

Let us try few of the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you to check if there is any yellow exclamation point on WebCam in Device Manager.

• Press Windows + X keys from the keyboard, click on
  Device Manager.
• Expand WebCam drives under
  Imaging devices , right click on the driver.
• Click on Properties and check the
  device status.

Step 2: I suggest you to run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

Hardware and Devices troubleshooter
checks for common problems and makes sure that any new device or hardware connected to your PC is installed correctly.

• Press Windows key from the keyboard, type
  Troubleshooting and select it.
• Click on view all option on the upper left corner of
  Troubleshooting window.
• Select the Hardware and Device
  options from the list.
• Click Next to run the
  Hardware and Device Troubleshooter.

If the issue is with the Camera app,

Step 3: I suggest you to run the
Windows Store Apps troubleshooter.

Webcam and Photos blocked by Anniversary Update

As you are facing issues with the photo app I suggest you to follow the below method.



Method 1: Run the Windows App Troubleshooter

For the issue related to webcam I suggest you to perform the below steps.



Method 2:

You may also update the Camera driver from Device Manager manually and check if this helps.

• Press (Windows key + X) and click on “Device Manager”.
• Expand “Other devices”.
• Right click on the “Integrated webcam” drivers and select “Update Driver Software”. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.
