Windows 10: Why is Windows 11 synchronising all folders with OneDrive

I have just set up a new laptop with Windows 11. I can see that all folders are synchronising with OneDrive. Meaning everything is being sent to OneDrive. Normally I have a OneDrive folder with all of the folders/files that I want to sync with OneDrive isolated to within the OneDrive folder only. However on this new PC everything is sync'd - even he desktop, meaning I can't control what is and isn't uploaded to OneDrive. How do I stop this?

Anyone know how to remove "OneDrive - For Business" from the Explorer navigation panel? I've tried just about every registry modification, and windows policy for "Onedrive" but they only seem to work for the consumer product, not for onedrive for business.

The onedrive product alone is so damn annoying and continues to load itself upon startup, even when it's explicitly remove from startup. It continues to automatically load and unload itself from within the startup folder... while I'm actively watching it load itself into the startup folder.

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

 

OneDrive - synchronisation problems

A response from the Microsoft OneDrive team suggests that "we dot [sic] have this feature available to sync Password protected files on OneDrive for consumer account.

However, it has been recently introduced but requires an Office 365 subscription to use this feature, as it is design in collaboration with Office 365."

Having been synchronising password protected files for some years with OneDrive, I find it difficult to believe. I also find it difficult to believe that Microsoft would suddenly do something like this without some form of warning. If one purchases Office 2016, for example, that is a sizeable donation to Microsoft's coffers and they expect you to also purchase an Office 365 subscription just to keep OneDrive working?

Anyone know a good book on 'how to convert a lifelong Windows user to Apple?'
