Why is WMP not recognizing any of my WPL files even after I include the Playlists folder...

I am able to create new WPL files, they do appear in the Playlists folder, but all the old WPL files in the same Playlists folder are being treated like they don't exist at all, as if not there, even after I include that folder in the WMP library. I had previously deleted all the WPL files from the WMP library because another folder full of WPL files had somehow gotten automatically recognized and put into the WMP library when I didn't want that to happen, I ended up with a bunch of duplicate WPL files I didn't want cause the paths are different. I deleted them all from the WMP library with

Windows media playlist(wpl) on computer to usb

I hope we are not talking at cross purposes. "wpl sub files under playlist"- .wpl do not contain files, subfiles. - .wpl are merely lists. - The "Playlists" section in WMP is just a section heading for the purposes of display.- - The playlists exist as separate .wpl files in your Playlists folder [rather than within WMP itself]. - - WMP merely reads & displays what's in the files in your Playlists folder. If you are indeed moving all your audio files then you'll need to do the same change to all your playlists. - Keep Notepad open all the time. - When you have done each file, save it then File, Open to move on to the next one. - By doing it this way, NotePad will keep the data in its Find what & Replace with fields so that will save you re-typing the same thing every time [and hence avoid the chances of typos]. Windows media playlist(wpl) on computer to usb

A Windows media playlist (wpl) is a file not a folder. Your diagram shows 40 individual .wpl files, 40 individual playlists. - Playlists are just lists. They do not contain anything other than text. - So you cannot simply copy a playlist to another device and expect it to work. Your .wpl files are, by default, in C:\%UserName%\Music\Playlists Drop one of them onto an open Notepad window and you will be able to see its layout & its relative path file referencing syntax. For example, Code:
You can manually edit a .wpl file to use absolute path file referencing Code:
and WMP will still use the playlist correctly.- .wpl files only cope straightforwardly with a very few symbols or punctuation marks so if you take look at one you know contains, say, an apostrophe or a semi-colon you'll see how you would have to deal with them if you were to alter it manually. I know nothing about the media player in your van. You will need to re-create your desired playlists in that player from scratch unless you are able to discover enough about its playlist file structure to be able to manually convert from your existing .wpl files. And, whatever .wpl file conversion you are able to do, you will also have to copy the media files themselves onto that other device. The same applies to trying to re-use WMP playlists between computers [or between Windows OS versions or between users]. - I use the same location for my Music folder on all my computers and also use the same locations for all my audio files. I am therefore able to copy playlists freely between them without having to make any changes to the .wpl files. Denis

    WMP and MS SYNC

Thanks, but I wasn't trying to uninstall Windows Media Player but revert to a version that used relative paths in its WPL files.

I recreated all my playlists on an Windows 7 computer. That version created lists with relative paths and I checked and MS SYNC (for my car) recognized the lists. I copied the playlists to my Windows 10 computer and WMP recognized the list with the relative
paths and played the files. About three hours later it had changed all the relative paths to hard paths.
