Windows 10: Why Isnt my serial Number showing up?

Hello, whenever I type "wmic bios get serialnumber" in windows cmd prompt It just shows up as blank or nothing there can someone help?

The serial number should be on a sticker somewhere on the desktop.

You can also go into the BIOS to find the serial number.

Thank You DaveM121 for considering and responding to my post. On my system which is abt 4 years old, when I 'boot into BIOS' of all the information displayed, nothing is listed as 'serial number'. Another person here figured out what I was doing wrong in the Run window. When that was corrected and I typed 'wmic bios get serialnumber' into the command window, the serial number for my system came up in the cmd window. The Serial Number that shows in the cmd window on my system is the same number that shows as 'Service Tag' in my BIOS screen. The exact same run > cmd process was successful on the new system as well. Also on the new system, we can go 'Start > Settings > System > About' and the Serial Number shows up there as well. None of our other 4 systems do that.



The process, 'boot into BIOS' did not produce a serial number on any of the other 3, older systems. The 'run > cmd' was not successful either. The BIOS screens on those 3 older systems were completly different, and scary.



On my system, when I go 'Start > run > cmd > wmic... ' the serial number that shows is 7 digits long. At the accounting software's web site, there is a web page showing the 5 machine serial numbers registered to our account. Sadly it doesn't specify which serial number goes with which machine. Each of those machine serial numbers are 8 digits long, and my serial number is not among the listing, even though I have full access to the software.



At this point I'm lost. Without our serial number, we are dead in the water and everything we do to try to find our serial number doesn't work like it's supposed to. All other ideas any wish to offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.
