Windows 10: Why msvbvm60.dll can't be loaded in Windows 11?

I have tried to use the the library in my code project by Win API call Declare Function VarPtr Lib "msvbvm60.dll" ByVal ptr As LongPtr As LongPtr without success. The dll won't be loaded. The file is located in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder and the .dll and its typelib can also be found from the Windows registry.

installing a program I get error message it is another application is running setup has detected Msvbvm60.dll (microsft Visual Basic 6 Application) in memory. This condition prevents Setup from running

I take it that the CD in question is the installer for some software and that it had "been run before with no issues" means that the CD had been successfully used to install the software before the Win 98se installation had become corrupted.

You're correct that MSVBVM60.DLL is related to Microsoft Visual Basic. My understanding is that this DLL file is included in the VB 6.0 runtime package.

Although normally software developers should include supporting software (e.g., Visual Basic DLLs) in their installation media, they don't always do that. In the case here, I suspect that installation of the software on this CD worked properly because some earlier installed software had already installed the VB 6.0 runtime package.

I haven't searched to see if VB 6.0 runtime is still available from Microsoft, but this website, which is generally trustworthy, gives a link to Sourceforge: Windows

 

MSVBVM60.DLL nad CD-Rom error message

Hi,

Trying to help someone who is running win98se. The 'C' partition was corrupted, which I fixed but had to format.

Clean install of the OS and now in the process of linking the applications etc. On one such re-installation from the CD-Rom disc I am getting a missing MSVBVM60.DLL message. Obviously the CD is "closed" and thus the launch program menu is not looking at the CD for this file. I searched the HD for this file but none was found.

I believe this DLL is part of Visual Basic? This, I am told, has never been installed on the pc, it being a home user system. If I obtain said dll will it need to be placed in System of system32 folder or even elsewhere such as the Win98 folder?

Mystery is, apparently, this CD has been run before with no issues and thus a bit of advice is needed!

Have had to select Win 7 for this question as obviously as nobody uses anything older
