Windows 10: Why my dell laptop window 8.1 pro does not fully charged. After plugging the charger it...

When I plugging the charger in my dell laptop window 8.1 pro it show plugged in ,charging but after sometime it shows plugged in , not charging. please help me to solve this issue. Thanks

Laptop charging icon shows charging even when my charger is not plugged in

Hi, thank you for your suggestion. I followed all the steps mentioned by you. The issue stopped temporarily. The issue started again today. The moment I switched the laptop on, the charging icon was showing that the laptop is charging even though the charger
was not plugged in. The charging light was also on. I had to plug in the charger and switch it on and off to stop this automatic charging.

Is there any other way to solve this issue? Also, is there a chance that there is bug in the latest update?

I am worried that my laptop battery will get spoiled.

 

Plugged in, not charging


I have a dell E1505 that I have hade no problems with Win 10 from day one until the latest update ver 1803. There must a bunch of people who have had this "not charging" issue. I have done every step from chilling the battery to removing all the battery drivers via device manager. Nothing worked. at one point I got half way there. I regrouped and played with it for three days. You will see in the procedure that it was the power cfg step that seemed to get it aligned to the system. I no longer have the issue and even the Quickset warning to use the proper Dell charger no longer appears. I hope this helps someone because I never found any Microsoft response that weren't scripted or useful.


1. Make sure you have enough battery power to pullthis off. If you don’t you may have to use a friend’s battery.
2. Disconnect the charger from wall socket. (Laptopnow on battery)
3. Disconnect the charger from the laptop.
IMPORTANT!! Go to the device manager and in the battery section delete all the drivers. Don't worry they will come back when you turn the laptop on in step 7.
4. Turn off the Laptop.
5. Connect charger to wall socket.
6. Connect charger to Laptop.
7. Start Laptop.
8. Wait till it is completely started.
9. At this point you will see that it is charging.If you disconnect the charger and reconnect it you will be right back where youstarted!
10. Now this the step that I tried on a whim. Openthe command prompt. Type in
a. powercfg /batteryreport
b. Open the report. It has some real interestinginfo then close it.
11. At his point you can shut down the laptop andsee your charging light is flashing.
12. Turn your laptop on and click on the batteryicon. Disconnect the cable and it should tell you it is on battery. Reconnectand it should tell you it is charging.

 

Battery plugged in but not charging.

All laptops will say connected but not charging when the battery reaches 100%. There is no trickle charge to keep the battery topped up, it would damage a Li-Ion battery to do so.

It is normal behaviour on a Dell for the battery light to go out when the battery is fully charged. Some other brands I own keep the light on at all times a charger is connected, but change the colour to indicate the state of charge. Usually it's amber to indicate charging, changing to green or white when fully charged. The charging light turning off is Dell's way to tell you it's fully charged. Unfortunately this is indistinguishable from the case of no charger being connected, or an unrecognised charger being used.


Interestingly, while I was waiting for the genuine article to be delivered I found that a spare universal charger I had (the sort suppled with a selection of adapter tips for the lead) would sometimes be accepted by the Dell. I'd plug it in a few times until the battery light lit up then leave it to charge normally. I'd see the same effect in the F2 bios screen, about one time in four when plugging it in the bios would show a '90W adapter' instead of 'unrecognised'. So it looks like the center pin may not be the only way a Dell decides if a charger is acceptable. This may explain why your charger sometimes works. My universal charger certainly had no 'third wire' on the lead's own plug. The Dell adapter's third pin had nothing it could be connected to, but still it would charge sometimes.

I still suspect there's a fault or a broken third wire in your Dell charger.
