    Why my folder templates never apply ?

    Hello,I'm using windows 11, before in windows 10 I used to change and apply folder template on my folders and subfolders also Folder view option.However, since I moved to windows 11, none of my template and changes to my template are saved or even took into consideration by windows 11 OS.It's like I'm clicking on buttons that doesn't have a function yet and it's starting to get on my nerves because for some folders that contain videos, normal files or pictures, I have to every time change manually the folder view/details columns to my liking.I have been waiting in vain for many updates to

    :)

  2. Folder Template with shortcut to folder inside folder.

    I showed you the principle of a method that will do what you wish. To apply it to any folder structure you need to understand how it works.

    • In my shortcut I defined the "Start in" folder as %CD%. This means that the shortcut must use the
      current folder as its base. In my example this was C:\Templates\Template1\TestA.
    • For the shortcut I used this command line:

      explorer.exe ..\TestB\Target

      What exactly does this do? Here is the explanation:

      1. "..\" tells Explorer to step on up in the directory tree:

      C:\Templates\Template1\TestA -> C:\Templates\Template1

      2. "TestB" tells Explorer to steop one down in the directory tree:

      C:\Templates\Template1 -> C:\Templates\Template1\TestB

      3. "Target" tells Explorer to open the file or folder "Target".
    Applying this knowledge, you could create a shortcut that makes Explorer step up two folders:

    Explorer.exe ..\..\Template2\TestB\Target

    C:\Templates\Template1\TestA

    -> C:\Templates\Template1

    -> C:\Templates

    -> C:\Templates\Template2

    -> C:\Templates\Template1\TestB

    -> Open "Target"

    Armed with this knowledge you can now fix your shortcut yourself.

  3. folder template auto detection

    Hello Igelkun,

    The tutorial below can help show you how to apply a default folder view to all folders.

    First you would need to set the default folder template to be "General Items" for a "Details" view to all folders. Next, you would set to use "List" layout view, and use "Apply to Folder" to apply to all folder with the same template (which were all set
    to "General Items").

    Why my folder templates never apply ?

    Folder property's doesn't apply to other folders within when checkbox 'Also apply this template to all subfolders' is checked.

    Folder property's doesn't apply to other folders within when checkbox 'Also apply this template to all subfolders' is checked.

    How to reproduce:

    On my c:\ I have a folder with other folders with pictures. when browsing to a folder, the default view is pictures so it shows me the pictures in thumbnail. I don't want that so I change the main folder property to 'Documents' and fill the checkbox 'Also apply this template to all subfolders'.

    What I expect: (Works in Windows 10.)

    All folders within that folder will show me a listed view.

    What I get:

    It only applies to the folder you changed the property to 'Documents', all folders deeper in the tree are still in picture mode.

    Conclusion:

    This clearly is one of the many small bugs in Windows 11 Why my folder templates never apply ? :) I manually changed every folder property to 'Documents' in the meantime.

    OS build: 22000.795
