My laptop has been dying randomly and will reboot itself up these past 2 months. I suppose this is due to overheating as I noticed that when I have a cooling pad + cool room/aircon, the crashing would appear less often means that it still appear like once a day or once in 3 days compared to the normal where my laptop would crash 2-4 times in 10mins-1hr interval. To find more fix, I stumbled about setting the Maximum Processor State to 99% to disable Turbo Boost and reduce my CPU temperature. Setting it to 99% has been working and I've been sticking into it until I get my laptop cleaned and re

  2. Why is the default maximum processor power state of power saver 100%?

It doesn't make sense that power saver maximum processor state becomes 100%, same as balanced scheme.

I find this is a bug because it wasn't the case when I first installed Windows 10.

  3. Why is the default maximum processor power state of power saver 100%?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

When you restore the settings to default in Windows 10 the maximum power state would be 100%. Refer to the link below for more information:

    Windows help and learning

Note: Applies to Windows 10 as well.

Hope this information was helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.

CPU stuck at maximum power state

I'm running Windows 10 on my laptop with an Intel i7-4810MQ.

My issue is that the CPU stays at the maximum processor state regardless of actual usage of the computer and percentage the setting
is set at. For example, if I set the maximum state to 100%, the CPU will idle on the desktop at 100%, 3.25GHz, 95°C. Obviously I don't want my PC running at this all the time.

The only exception is if I set the maximum processor state to a really low setting like 1%. At that point, the CPU stays at 28%, or 0.76 GHz because the CPU can't clock below that.

Is there a way I can set the maximum to 100% so it clocks up when I game or watch 60fps video, while still running cool and quiet when idling? I feel like that's what it should be doing right now, but it's
    stuck at the maximum.

I should also note that the High Performance and Balanced power plan both run at 100% all the time. Also, changing the GPU's Power Plan does not affect this.

Here's a shot of my advanced CPU settings in my Prema Mod BIOS:
