  2. SHRINK C VOLUME TO SMALLER CAPACITY

    Hello microsoft community,

I would like to shrink my 1TB C drive which has windows 10 installed on it. I have 2 questions

Q 1. if i do shrink the volume to what windows allows which is around 500GB , will that effect system reset or restore in case the system crashes.

Q2. there are various programs available like easeus partition manager which can shrink the C drive to much smaller size. is it advisable to use such programs? i am worried if i shrink the volume to below the recommended size of 500 GB my system may not
reset or restore in case of a crash.

i would appreciate if some one can help as i am not very tech savvy.

  3. KB5034441 diskpart shrink desired=250 minimum=250 fails

Again, the KB5034441 issue continues. Back in January 2024, the word was to wait for a solution from Microsoft but now in May 2024, the word is no magic bullet will be provided; we have to work thru the script suggestions from Microsoft (ref KB5028997).

The chosen partition is part=4 on disk 0

    DISKPART> list disk

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt

    -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---

    Disk 0 Online 232 GB 22 GB *

    Disk 1 Online 7452 GB 1024 KB *

    DISKPART> sel disk=0

Disk 0 is now the selected disk.

    DISKPART> list part

    Partition ### Type Size Offset

    ------------- ---------------- ------- -------

    Partition 1 Reserved 128 MB 17 KB

    Partition 2 Recovery 499 MB 129 MB

    Partition 3 System 100 MB 628 MB

    Partition 4 Primary 208 GB 728 MB

    Partition 5 Primary 512 MB 209 GB

So for me, all went well until I get to step 4f of KB5028997. When I do:

    DISKPART> shrink desired=250 minimum=250.

I get the following reply after 10sec of "thinking":

    Virtual Disk Service error:

The specified shrink size is too big and will cause the volume to be

smaller than the minimum volume size.

Presumably I'm overlooking some vital aspect. Maybe I just wait for the magic bullet, but I doubt it is coming now.

    Any suggestions please?

Unable to shrink the C drive beyond 455 GB

I was trying to partition my 1 TB hard drive in new windows 10 laptop from HP by using disk management tool . I would like to keep the following partition sizes:

    C Drive : 200 GB

    D Drive : 400 GB

    E Drive : 300 GB

However I am unable to proceed as the shrink cannot be beyond 50% and it doesn't allow Volume C to be less than 455 GB.

Will I be able to successfully shrink it to 200 GB in c drive and does it have any disadvantages doing so?
