Why my win 10 does not recognize empty music cd? full ones are ok both CD and DVD 's.

.cda music files on CD not recognized

This is a strange one that has me stumped. I use a combo Blu-ray/DVD/CD drive in my desktop PC. It is an LG WH14NS40.
I use it mainly to watch DVDs/Blu-rays and sometimes to convert music files from CDs to .flac files using EAC (Exact Audio Copy).EAC recognizes the music (.cda files) when I insert a commercial music cd. Last night I decided to play a couple of music cds and none of the programs would recognize the cd such as Media Monkey, Groove Music, WMP, etc. If I go into "This PC", select the DVD/CD drive and click open it shows no files as if they do not exist. This is the same for all the music cds I tried. The CDs show and work fine in other PCs I own such as laptops with drives. Since this drive was recently swapped out for another one, it could be a hardware issue with the drive itself or perhaps a Windows 10 file that got corrupted. I'm about to do a repair or perhaps a clean reinstall of Windows 10, but before I do I wanted to check and see if anyone might know of something I might have missed. I have thoroughly searched many forums and the internet, but have been unable to find anyone with the same problem.

Windows version is: 21H1 19043.1320

I use Media Player Classic - Home Cinema to play my music CD & DVDs.
But I have to click File then Open Disc to play them.

CD/DVD drive not recognized

First, try inserting a disc in the drive, does it spin up?
--Yes, I put a blank CD in, and it spins up.

A few other suggestions

Try uninstalling the device in Dev mgr, wait 2 or 3 minutes and if Windows doesn't cycle though hardware changes, right click any device and select Scan for Hardware changes.

--Yes, I've uninstalled it and waited. Tried this with the CD in. Nothing happened after a few minutes, so I did the Scan for Hardware changes. Still Unknown Device. I've even tried updating and grabbing the drivers off the HP site, updating those drivers didn't help. Tried the update drivers, didn't fix the issue.

You might also want to check File and Folder options in File Explorer
press the blue file menu,
select Change folder and Serach options
select the View tab
is show empty drives selected?

---This was hidden. I've unhidden it as in the screen shot of my folder options.

It would help members if you could post a screen shot of Dev mgr device properties (post the first 4 tabs)

If it is an unknown device -post the General tab and the Details.
On the Details tab, select Hardware IDs from the drop down box

I'm not sure if these suggestions will help. I had a similar issue with a CD drive on a Vista box, turned out to be a hardware issue on the Mobo. The optical drive is really controlled by a few settings (DVD, CD, Writer) and when it doesn't work, it is hard to diagnose.

If the device worked before (recently), it's a Win10 issue, and it might be version specific. There are known issues with AMD graphics drivers, this might extend to the chipset as well - those with Intel boards / CPUs can ignore this part. It's a guess anyway.

--Installed WIN 10 with this drive, it worked until 10 was installed.

If you're comfortable with hardware, you might try removing the optical drive from the box, restarting without it attached, and then shut down, reinstall the optical drive and start up the machine.

Follow instructions in the service manual for your device or on the mfr website.

---I'm okay with opening latops. I've opened this one 3 times, adding SSD HD and upgrading RAM. I'll be able to try this later on, Friday, probably. With it spinning up when a CD is inserted, I'm not sure this would help. I'd appreciate advice on this.
