Why when opening a Onedrive file in Explorer so slow and why is there no solution from Microsoft as it is clearly an issue as there are lots of other posts but no fixes?When I open a file in Onedrive using Word, Excel, etc. it opens in seconds. Using Windows Explorer it takes minutes. You can navigate to a folder quickly using the left hand "window", but if at any point I try to use the right hand window the folder or file takes minutes to open. The same Onedrive directory can be accessed via my laptop and this issue is not replicated.

This DOES stop the lag with explorer, and does not seem to have any adverse effect on anything that I normally use.

Ok so since upgrading from 7 to 10 file explorer has been a absolute nightmare! Everything was either incredibly slow, didn't happen or only partially load. After enduring this to this day I have decided enough is enough and started diagnosing by limiting the startup services using MSconfig.

After going through enabling startup services groups at the time and restarting the computer everytime! Eventually I found the service that was causing the problems with file explorer. The service is called Windows search and once disabled it restored functionality to file explorer. The search function in file explorer works but the search in the taskbar doesn't.

Step by step guide:
1. Hold Win+r to open run
2. Type msconfig and hit ok or enter
3. Click Services
4. Navigate to Windows search (you can sort the list in descending alphabetical order)
5. Uncheck tickbox
6. Click apply then ok
7. Select to restart now

Possible... I had Kaspersky and ZoneAlarm, both, on different machines & times, misbehavin' and had to re-install them to set them right.
Even after cleaning them out and re-setting them; they would still bog the file access times down and cause Windows Explorer (not ie) to be slow on opening and accessing, until re-installed.

If he turns off real-time detection it will not make any difference, as he has already been opening the file... he would/should have gotten an alert or warning if there were a problem with the file he is testing with.

Probably not; but, how much ram?
What version of Windows?
Where is you swap file located? What size?
How full are your drives?
What processor?
Have you got the latest firmware for your SSD?
Are your drivers up to date?
Is your MB bios current?

Is the file an installation file, video file, etc? Does it use compression?

You need to goto User CP and put your system info there and then check the box to show the specs. The info will go a long way in helping some to diagnose your possible problem(s).
