  1. Why Onedrive removes local files from the computer without explicit user permission?

I have 500 GB of memory space in my local PC, enough to store my important documents and files. The Onedrive sync setting was automatically turned on and it is supposed to BACK-UP important files, Backing up does not mean removing local copies and storing it in the cloud without my permission. I started getting an issue that my Onedrive is full which provides a meager 5GB compared to what other providers like Google or Apple. So I deleted an important folder from OneDrive and it's recycle bin thinking that my local copy is safe in my PC. But no, it is gone! There is no way I can restore it unl

  2. Removing a "hidden" user and user files

Thanks for your patience. I was able with "Net User" to remove the left over user. It no longer appears when I invoke Net User.

Now for the user's folder which remains behind. After performing the series of steps that you suggested, I attempted to delete this folder. The result again was an error message about permission

"Administrators" appears on the list in the list of advanced security.

  3. File permissions issue for files downloaded from internet / synchronized by OneDrive

    Hello Juhn Jac,

Thank you for replying. If you read carefully you will notice that the problem relates to Windows > Security and Privacy rather than Microsoft 365 > OneDrive. The permissions are different for any file downloaded from the internet and not just those downloaded by OneDrive. I would suggest moving the post back to Windows > Security and Privacy.

    1. We are using the OneDrive preinstalled with Windows 11 with a SharePoint back-end with Microsoft 365 Subscription.
    2. The problem occurs even on local connection without VPN as accessing the files through VPN does not affect the file permissions. As already noted I can access other files in the same location over VPN/local.
If there was a way to give required file permissions to files downloaded from internet automatically or if there is a different option of changing the sharing settings, then that would resolve the issue.
