Why so much dishonesty - Free download is NOT free software

    Hi there

Why can't people be more honest on their websites -- as well as making it harder and harder to find REAL downloads without confusing extra offers / links to other programs with the real link buried deep down in an easy to miss website - I really hate the following that seems to be commonplace now -- FREE DOWNLOAD which implies FREE -- but the SOFTWARE most certainly Isn't but totally no mention of BUY / PAY on the site.

We should BOYCOTT those sites and make our feelings known --nothing wrong about people wanting to make a few bucks - especially these days with good jobs getting harder to find -but we can still be OPEN.

  2. Why is Windows 10 so slow? Also so much more Spam in my Yahoo Mail since Window’s 10?

Why do I get so much more spam now in my Yahoo since Window’s 10? Also tons of spam in Yahoo Mail on my iPad. It seems like their software would be more familiar by now with spam like when they see @ with like 15 crazy random letters after that.. This is
    beyond annoying.

    Hi,

There are several possible reasons why your Windows 10 is running slow. It can be due to software conflicts, corrupted system files or if there are unused files present.

To help resolve the issue with Windows 10, you can perform a clean boot by referring to the article on this

    link
    .

For concerns with Yahoo Mail, you can contact Yahoo support for assistance.

Let us know if you have other questions.

    Regards.

Did you not know that the world is primarily run on the basis of greed, dishonesty, deception, and BIG GREEN BUTTONS?

    *chuckle

Unfortunately I've had reason to come to conclude it's too often true.

  5. Well to be fair, they imply, that it is a free download only, not that it is a free software. *Smile

I always check the newly found software on Softpedia before downloading/installing to:

    1. check if it is malware free, they would not list an infected software. If it is adware, it is stated as well.
    2. see the licence terms.

The mentioned software is not listed on Softpedia, so I would avoid it based on my rules.

And yet, when Microsoft work towards trying to address this issue by creating 'Project Centennial' and the Windows Store, all they're met with is negativity...

Free download is not the same as free software. Why do they make it hard to find the correct download link? They get paid for every click from their webpage. It's the same principle of why you shouldn't use ad blockers on web sites you want to support.

Short answer: Money makes the world go round *Wink Just take a look at the economy or governments, lying just seems to be ordinary behavior nowadays. For example the VW Diesel scandal: They kept lying until proof was provided. Then they admitted that they had been cheating and lying for years. But would they work with the authorities? No, they just started a new lie about who was involved until this new lie also collapsed like a house of cards... It has just become horrible, you cannot trust anybody anymore. It's sad but you have to suspect a lie behind every claim. And if it's not a lie it's at least whitewashed.

When I see "free download" I always pass it right by. That's a good indicator to me that it's not "free".

Wise words. Generally free is more than often just a disguise for a rip off.

I think the "free download" comes from the days of bulletin boards where one paid for the connection to a server to enable downloading software, most often Shareware [try then buy or uninstall]. I also pass those free downloads unless it's something I really, really want to try. The downside is once the trial software is installed then uninstalled it can't again be installed except only after a fully clean reinstall [HDD wipe] of the OS, leaves something behind/hidden that prevents that.

    Hi there

actually people being OPEN and say what they are charging for generates MORE business in the long run than people trying to make money by the Back Door.

I don't disagree with "Money makes the world go round" -- but my beef is that the ways people use to get / earn it -- if our business people run on deceptions etc how can we expect to install decency into our kids etc.

Running a Business (or even several) is actually a perfectly fine occupation -- you don't have to resort to subterfuge and deception to run successful businesses.

    Cheers

All businesses have there sneaky ways to make a larger profit from customers than most customers intended to spend. Ever wonder why the stores put candy close to the checkouts? A lot of children will see the candy and carry on until mom\pop buys them some candy. Store just made extra money that the parent wasn't planning on spending. It's the same theory behind rearranging the store. Customer becomes familiar with the store and goes right to the product the want to buy. By changing the store around the customer has to look around the store to find the items they want. In the process they see other things and before they know it their buying more than they intended. Buy one get second one at a discount is another trick stores use to get customers to spend more money than they intended. Another trick that some stores pull is to raise the price on a item then put it on sale at the original price. The customer thinks they are getting a discount and buy it at the same price they originally thought was to expensive. As for some web pages, they make money by tricking users to clink on links that pay them for every click. There all kinds of tricks business use make money from customers.

    Hi there

In the USA it might work like that but in some European / Nordic countries a few supermarket chains pride themselves of NOT putting those sorts of things in front of the checkout and help parents to avoid "Pester Power" --and guess what THOSE supermarkets make MORE money !!!

Similarly "BOGOF" offers (Buy one - get one free) sales are hugely discouraged as those just incur people wasting almost unbelievable amounts of food !!!

In some places "Best practices" and Ethical / environmental concerns work better than being as Greedy as possible !!!! -- as I said Businesses can do very nicely indeed by actually treating their customers sensibly.

Ryanair used to be the WORST airline on the planet and had legendary bad customer service -- it even considered introducing a Charge for using restrooms in the plane !!!! -- they changed their policy on customer service and now getting more customers so it can and does work.

    Cheers

As stores are concerned, it all depends on business model. Torontonians would remember "Honest Edd's" store where everything was cheaper but everybody walked out spending more than they planned.
There was a Penny store (later on Dollar) discount store near my place that always had bins with free stuff they didn't have place for to store any more. "Please, take one or we will have to throw it away".
