Why was Intel RST removed during Win 10 upgrade, can I reinstall?

I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 this week. During the upgrade I was informed that a couple of pieces of software were being removed due to incompatibility, but it also removed my Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IASTOR) service without telling me. Although I don't use RAID arrays I do have SSDs running in ACHI mode so Intels RST is useful.

My question is simply, why on earth did it remove it and is it safe for me to try to reinstall it? I have downloaded the new Windows 10 version here but I am concerned about reinstalling as I am unsure why it was removed and why I wasn't told about it.

Is it normal that Intels RST was removed? Is it safe for me to try to reinstall?

Any advice here would be appreciated. Windows 10 threw a hissy-fit yesterday when I tried to overclock my processor and got my PC stuck in a boot loop until my BIOS was kind enough to reset itself completely. Then i tried to run HWMonitor (which wasn't removed in the upgrade) and it froze my entire PC. So tbh I am getting kind of paranoid about the whole Windows 10 upgrade stability.

Have to say Microsoft, so far, as it stands... not impressed, not impressed at all! *Sad

    :)

It could have been your version was not compatible. @essenbe and I have installed the latest and it installed just fine.
For your CPU though, you might want to go to your manufacturers site(PC or MOBO), and see if there is a new chipset driver for Win10.

Omg. Good call! You know that hadn't occurred to me in the slightest. I prepared my system as much as I could before upgrading... uninstalling unused software, thoroughly cleaning up as much as I could, etc. However my mobo drivers haven't changed for years so I never have to update them and it never even crossed my mind... funny though, would have thought it would have been windows/Microsoft job to remind me to do this, not some kind forum poster!

    Thanks, Cliff!
