Windows 10: Why windows 11 is using 60%+ memory even if no apps are running in background and laptop is...

I purchased Lenovo idea pad gaming 3 which has 8 GB of ram , It came with windows 11 pre installed and since the day I started using it , the memory is always more than 50% used by windows . Can anyone tell what's the issue like it's a pretty good system but it lacks in memory. If I will open Chrome and OneNote then the memory consumption reaches 90%+. Will be waiting for a reply with proper solution

Apps only run as background pocesses

Hi Carmine,

To manage background apps in Windows 10, you can follow these steps:

• Go to Start menu and select Settings.
• Click on Privacy on the Settings window.
• Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select Background apps.
• You’ll see a list of apps that have permission to run in the background with an
  On/Off toggle.

Apps running in Background

Hi JonBlann,

Windows 10 allows some apps to run in the background even if you never open it. This would let the applications to update itself or to get you notified with what's new with the app. However, this would consume most of your battery, bandwidth, and system
resources.

You can refer to the steps below on how to disable apps from running in the background:

1. Go to Settings > Privacy > Background apps.
   
2. Under Background apps, toggle off the Let apps run in the background switch to disable all apps that come from Microsoft Store. If you want to disable only a specific app, then you can toggle off the switch next to the
   app under Choose which app can run in the background.

Photos App continues to run as a Background process, consuming a large amount of memory, when allowing it to run in the background is turned off.

I am having an issue on several Windows 10 PCs (both Version 1703 and 1709) where the Photos app keeps running as a background process, consuming a large amount of memory. In

another thread it was suggested that I:

• In Cortana, type Privacy Settings
  and press Enter.
• Look for Background apps.
• Look for Photos in the list.
• Flip the switch to Off.
• Restart your computer.

At first it seemed to work, but checking Task Manager several hours later, I see it's ignoring my setting not to allow Photos to run in the background. That's an even more troubling than the memory consumption.
