Windows 10: Why Windows Update reinstall previously uninstalled Windows product key?

Hi,

I moved to new PC, so I removed windows product key from old PC via "slmgr.vbs /upk", then installed windows10 on new PC with product key from my Win7 Ultimate BOX. Everything was OK. Windows was activated on new PC and on old PC windows was without a license. After six months I wanted copy something from old PC so I started it and Windows asked to install critical updates, installed version 1903. After this and reset nothing strange happen but after some time when I was digging into system I found that this windows have again product key. ****? Why? How to prevent windows updates from reinstalling previously uninstalled Windows product key?

Reinstall Windows?

You don't need to reinstall windows. Go to the device manager and remove uninstall the processor and motherboard drivers listed. When you start the system back up you should be able to re-install the new ones. I just changed my mobo/processor Friday, everything is fine.

BTW I have seen some reviews that state practically no difference in using more than 2gb of ram.

Steps tried

• Uninstall KB 3035583 using wusa /uninstall
• Restart
• Reinstall KB 3035583 using Windows Update
• Restart
• Click on Get Windows 10 icon, not responding.

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community.

I suggest you to Uninstall the license using the following steps.

• Press Windows key + X
• Click Command Prompt (Admin)
• At the command prompt, type: slmgr.vbs -upk
• Press Enter, this will uninstall the product key from the computer.

Further on, install Windows 8.1 activate the copy with the product key on the new machine. Then again upgrade the same to Windows 10 using Window Update or Media Creation Tool.
