Windows 10: Why won’t my computer stay sleeping or hibernating for more than 5 seconds?

I have had absolutely no problems for almost 2 years (shockingly) but all of a sudden I’ve had a ton of little issues. I figured out the rest but this one is killing me. I simply can’t put it to sleep. I unplugged everything except Ethernet and power and put it to sleep using Pulseway, and it wakes up immediately after sleeping so I can safely say it’s nothing plugged in through USB.

I tore apart the computer and put it back together and still no change. I tried with the power button and power LED unplugged and that didn’t help either. I’ve tried everything Microsoft has to offer other than completely starting over with a fresh install of windows (I can’t do that now). It started about a week and a half ago when I was running 1903. Since then I’ve done a lot and even force updated to 2004 and nothing has worked.

Does anyone have experience fixing this issue? Any help is appreciated. I simply am out of ideas myself and I have exhausted every resource I’ve found on this other than asking Reddit...

ps) if I turn the computer off it stays off like it should. It’s just sleep and hibernation

I think you have sleep and hibernate confused... sleep just puts the computer in a low power state, making resuming the session faster... hibernate shuts down the whole computer and basically just saves whats in RAM to the hdd and loads it on next startup. IIRC...

 

Fans and keyboard lights stay on when hibernating or sleeping

Unfortunately, this isn't exactly what I mean.

The issue happens when I click on "Sleep" or "Hibernate" from the Start Menu. If I try to put my computer to sleep so I can bring it somewhere, I will click "Sleep" or "Hibernate" and wait a few seconds for it to stop running.

However, my issue is that the computer never completely goes to sleep or hibernates. The lights on my laptop stay on, the screen turns off, and the fans and maybe even the hard drive keep running. I have to hold down the power button for it to fully stop
running, and this either causes it to restart completely so I have to log on again, or causes it to complete the Sleep or Hibernate process so when I hit the power button again it resumes as if nothing had gone wrong. It's unpredictable whether it will restart
or resume.
